Sports Clubs at Oakfield
For many years, any one speaking of the Old Parkonians would probably have been referring to one or other of the Sports Clubs, football or cricket, mostly.
Founded soon after the School itself (hence the continuation of the “Parkonians” name), the Sports Clubs existed to provide high quality sport for ex-pupils of Ilford County High School.
Today, both Clubs retain strong links with the School, but are open to membership from all members of the community. The Cricket Club, in particular, boast a large junior section, and in 2014 launched a new section for Women & Girls, supported by an Olympic Legacy Grant from Redbridge Borough Council.
The Football Club fields 9 XIs every Saturday on the Southern Amateur League, and has founded a new junior section, the Young Parkonians, in 2014-15.
In 2014, the Cricket Club changed its name to the Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club, in recognition of both the long history as the Old Parkonians and the future of the Club at Oakfield Playing Fields.
